Writing a book in one month

I love Fridays and today I want to try something I don’t do often enough, blog about writing. Before I start, congratulations are in order:

Drum roll please.........
Leigh Ann,
you won the swags and a copy of Betrayed in the Freedom to Read hop, so e-mail me you addresses.

Now back to writing.
How many hours do you write a day?
Do you set aside hours/time to write?
Do you jump on where you left or revise what you’d written the last time.
I write whenever I can and when not dropping off or picking up kids. Between 5 kids and a husband, I’m lucky if I write continuously for hours. But I want to try something different and this is why.
I came across a fellow author’s blog and she wrote her book, 400 pages, in two weeks. Two freaking weeks? I was like, no way? That meant she wrote 28-29 pages a day. Since I am competitive and believe I can do anything if I put my mind to it, I have decided to try this.
I plan to write a chapter a day on my present WIP.
A chapter, for me, is about 16 pages (4000 words).

6 days a week (one day break) puts me at 24,000 words
1 month at this pace totals 106,000 words.
Since my target is 100,000 words (400pages), I should be okay, right?
Hehehe.
Lofty goal, right?
I know, I know. I have to keep in mind this is summer and I have 5 kids to drive around and entertain. Still, I’m going to try.
Have you ever had a goal like this? I tried Nano last year and actually made my goal of 50,000, so maybe, just maybe I might swing this.
Wish me Luck!

Here's where I am today, Friday 6th

  1. Whoa...I totally wish you luck! I'm getting ready to buckle down with edits and work on a new book. I'm going to try something similar to you: write and just keep writing with no editing and a goal of about 2,000 a day.

    We'll see...

    1. I never tried anything like this, but I'm determined to do it. No editing whatsoever. I tend to go over what I've written over and over, not this time, lol

  2. Wow very nice. I always run my novels on the short side about 55k. I do plan to start a new novel ASAP and I do have 7k which I should go back and rewrite some of. Still, I may give this a shot! Finish it in a month before I go back to school :) While I have the time!

  3. Good luck, Ednah. I've written 80K in 12 days. That's my record. I find the more I write, the more I want to write. I get in a zone. I wish you lots of words!

    1. 8-k in 12 days..dyum, Kelly, envious. I tend to be anal and write a chapter to death. Not this time. Just want this draft done. Thanks for the encouragement

  4. Good luck with that. :) I do set daily goals, but it's about half of your new goal. And I only have one kid and a husband... So, I think you are insane. But in a good way.

    1. Beth, it usually takes me 4-5 months to finish a book, so this is a challenge. Keep hacking at it.

  8. 400 pp in 2 weeks? I think I'd faint after about 200. I AM doing Camp Nano Aug, though. Come say hi if you join that one! Catherine Stine’s Idea City

  9. Good luck! I've done NaNo a couple of times and that was great, but you're aiming for twice as many words. But if you're determined to do it, I'm sure you can.

  10. I'm a little late to the party, but I wish you lots of luck! I've done Nano since 2002 and have won every year except one. In 2008, I wrote 125K in that month. It's possible. And I believe you can do it!

  11. Wow! Good luck to you! I even can't write a page in a day! I only can read, read, and read.
